Flowers attract different types of pollinators. Bees, wasps, butterflies, moths and flies, even humming birds and bats, help pollinate flowers.
Honey bees produce honey for us to eat. Pollinators help increase the yield of fruits, vegetables and nuts. Every plant that has a flower benefits from bees and pollinators. They are important in our farming and gardening.
We took some pictures in our local area of pollinators in action. Included are mining bees that are native to our Rocky Mountain area. They are considered solitary bees and dig their nests at trail heads in the forests and mountains. Click on the pollinator link below for a simple science reading lesson.
