Solstice

Solstice means sun standing. It is the day we mark the beginning of summer or winter. The summer solstice occurs on June 21st or 22nd in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the longest day of the year.  In the Southern Hemisphere it happens on December 21st or 22nd.

The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year. It happens on December 21st or 22nd in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere it occurs June 21st or 22nd.
