We used to think there were 9 planets orbiting our sun. A few years ago Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet. Subtract 1 from 9 and you have 8 planets orbiting our sun. Currently there are 5 known dwarf planets that are part of solar system. Science is fun because it is always changing!
The planets in our solar system are Mercury , Venus , Earth , Mars , Jupiter , Saturn , Uranus and Neptune .
The dwarf planets are Pluto , Ceres , Makemake , Eris and Haumea .
