Introducing the calendar is a great way to teach counting and numeral recognition. It also introduces the names of the week and months. In our classroom we would start from the first day of the month and count to the present day. Doing this activity daily reinforces counting and numeral recognition. Also, stating the name of the month and day is a great way to introduce these new terms. Later, after numeral recognition is established, teach the days of the week. Start from Sunday and read the names of the day until you find the present day of the week. This helps teach the days of the week.
